Cedar raised garden beds and elevated planters in real gardens

Clean lines, real cedar, and engineered strength—this is the GL Planters collection of cedar raised garden beds and elevated planters built for the outdoors. Our beds use premium tongue-and-groove cedar panels for a tighter, more stable wall, and reinforcement designed around the real stress points: corners under soil load, moisture, and seasonal movement.

Every GL Planters bed is designed for food-safe gardening with built-in drainage and fast assembly, so you can go from delivery to planting quickly. Use the size guide below to compare dimensions and root depth, then shop the model that matches your goals—greens and herbs, tomatoes and peppers, flowers, or a full seasonal rotation.

Start here if you want the most popular footprints for vegetables, herbs, patios, and deck-friendly gardens.

Choose your size and planter height

The right size is the one you’ll actually use every week. Compare footprint, height, planting depth, and soil volume.

Whether you’re planting herbs on a patio, building a vegetable layout on a deck, or going all-in on a backyard harvest, choose a bed that fits your space and your routine. Compact sizes make watering and maintenance easy for small-space gardens, while longer and wider footprints support higher yields and better spacing for vegetables.

Choose the planter height that fits your routine: lower-profile beds for open backyard layouts, or elevated comfort-height cedar planters for easier planting, watering, and harvesting.

FAQs (size, soil depth, liners, drainage)

Do I need a liner for cedar raised garden beds?
No — GL Planters does not recommend liners or synthetic barriers for our cedar beds. Liners restrict airflow and interfere with organic gardening; they prevent the natural exchange of oxygen and moisture that healthy roots need. Our beds are engineered with a full cedar bottom and built-in drainage to promote natural drainage and optimal root health.
How deep should a raised bed be for vegetables?
Many vegetables do well with 8–12 inches of soil. Deeper beds help with root crops and summer fruiting plants. Your elevated beds use 13″ planting depth on the 44×18, 72×18, and 72×24; the 72×36 ground bed offers 18″.
Elevated vs. ground-level: which should I choose?
Choose elevated if you want an easier weekly routine (less bending) and cleaner patios/decks. Choose ground-level if you want maximum soil volume and deep-root performance for larger crops.
Are cedar raised garden beds good for flowers?
Yes — cedar raised garden beds work well for flowers, herbs, and vegetables. Smaller elevated cedar planter boxes are great for patios and decks, while larger raised beds give a cedar flower bed more root space and easier seasonal planting.
How much soil do I need?
Quick guide: 44×12 ≈ 2.5 cu ft • 44×18 ≈ 5 cu ft • 72×18 ≈ 9 cu ft • 72×24 ≈ 12 cu ft • 72×36 ≈ 24 cu ft.
What’s the best “first” bed size?
The 44×18 is the most versatile starter for vegetables and herbs. Choose the 72×18 if you want longer rows without taking over your space.
